JOSHUA TREE - JOURNEYING -PART I
Eva and Steve drove fast and hard deep into the eastern part of the state. They passed a lot of amazing sights on the way -- a whole field of white pinwheels, something that looked like a dinosaur, and some kind of casino. They stopped once along the way at an amazing truckstop with pictures of John Wayne on the walls.
"Check it out, Steve!" ordered Eva, pointing to the Wayne picture with one slender finger.
"Amazing!" shouted Steve so loud the cook in the restaurant next door could practically hear.
They bought two packs of gum (different kinds so they could share) and got their pictures taken in the photo booth at the truck stop. They had to wait a few minutes for the pictures to come out, and when they did they were all wet and sticky.
"Don't touch them with your fingers!" warned Eva.
"Don't worry, stupid." Steve teased nicely.
As they walked out of the truck stop something really strange caught Steve's eye. They walked over to the road and saw what they were dreading. A small grey kitten, younger than Bam or Billy Jack, was lying dead by the side of the road, a large tire track through it's abdomen. Eva and Steve were both very silent. They had each had favorite pets throughout their childhood, and the thought of someone's pet getting killed in this barbaric way and then not cleared off the road made them both very sad and very angry. Steve spat in disgust.
But travel is travel, and it was time for the two best friends to get back in the beige accord, throw "Float On-Single" into the CD player and head toward their destination -- JOSHUA TREE...

This blog is really coming along nicely. Make sure this friendship between Steve and Eva stays solid, though... there is always the danger of them fading away. I've seen too many friendships that meant a lot to me disappear forever, and that is my only human regret.
Awww 2 sweet! SO SAD ABOUT THE CAT.
Is it true Steve has a cat called Bam? I heard not true. SOunds like a made-up name for a cat. Think he has a cat, just with a diff name... anyone?
I LOVE LOVE LOVE what's going on between Steva right now-- how horrible it must be for them to have seen that dead animal. I saw a dead animal once, but I can't imagine it was as bad for me as it was for Steva. Here's hopin!
I hope they get it ON in Joshua Tree!
